Sending a Student Away to School?
Make Fire Safety Part of the Move.
Before signing a lease or moving into student housing, take a few minutes to check for essential fire safety features.
- Working smoke alarms on every level and outside sleeping areas
- Carbon monoxide alarms where required
- Clear, accessible exits and escape routes
- Safe electrical systems with enough outlets
- Fire safety plans and emergency procedures
- Windows and doors that open easily in an emergency
Students should also know the basics:
- Stay in the kitchen while cooking
- Keep space heaters away from anything that can burn
- Never leave candles unattended
- Avoid overloaded electrical outlets
- Plan two ways out of every room whenever possible
A safe home means peace of mind for students and parents.
