Fire Prevention

Here are some tips on how to keep your family safe.

Carbon Monoxide

Are you protected by smoke and carbon monoxide alarms?

  • In 34% of fatal home fires there is no smoke alarm warning. Install smoke alarms on every storey of your home and outside all sleeping areas.
  • Carbon monoxide alarms are required outside all sleeping areas if your home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage.

For more information contact the Cavan Monaghan Fire Department 705-932-2765.

Smoke Alarms

  • Have working Smoke Alarms on every storey of your home and outside all sleeping areas.
  • If your home has a fuel-burning appliance or an attached garage, install a Carbon Monoxide Alarm adjacent to each sleeping area.
  • The Cavan Monaghan Fire Department provides fire safety inspections upon complaint or request. Members of the public wishing an inspection can contact the Fire Department at 705-932-9344.

Home escape planning

  • Ensure your family is prepared should a fire start in your home by preparing a home escape plan and practice it with every member of your family.

The Fire Department attends events through the year to promote fire safety in the community. These events include the Millbrook Fair, Fire Department Open House, Senior Seminars and special events.
