On Monday May 30, 2022, the Township lifted the State of Emergency declared May 22, 2022 at 12 p.m. for the Township of Cavan Monaghan.  As such all services will be returning to normal operations.  The Township would like to thank all of our community members, leaders and staff (specifically our Public Works, Parks and Fire Department) for working together to get through this emergency.  We truly are a community of neighbours helping neighbours.

Customers still experiencing power outages can report them by texting HydroOne 92887 (WATTS), online, through the company’s outage map and app, or by calling 1-800-434-1235.

Here are some tips to remember after a power outage

    • If you notice any damage to your electrical installations, make sure to have them inspected by a master electrician.
    • Gradually turn electrical appliances back on, including heating appliances (e.g., baseboard heaters).
    • Wait until the temperature and humidity have returned to normal before turning electronic devices back on (TVs, stereo, computers, microwave oven, etc.).
    • Once the power is back on, see whether your electrical installation has been damaged. If you see sparks or broken or frayed wires, notice a smell or feel heat, turn off the power at the distribution panel (circuit breaker or fuse panel). Call a master electrician for advice, if necessary.
    • Don't walk through water to get to the distribution panel (circuit breaker or fuse panel).
    • Check the food left in the refrigerator and freezer during your absence and throw out any that has spoiled.
    • Restock your emergency kit and provisions.
  • The Transfer Station has returned to regular hours of operation and are no longer receiving excess tree limbs.  Debris and shingles will be charged as per our User Fees and Charges By-law No. 2021-76.
  • Excess tree limbs and brush can be dropped at the following locations:
    • Peterborough County Public Works Yard at 1111 Peterborough County Road 10.
  • Anyone experiencing financial hardship due to the emergency can contact Peterborough Social Services at 705-748-8830
