Burn Permits
All open air burning within the Township requires a Burn Permit. Permits are valid for one year from the date of purchase. Residents must activate their permit using the numbers provided on the permit before and after each burn.

Burn permits can be secured through any of the following channels:
- Complete the online form for brush or campfire permits only. (Online burn permits will not be issued over the weekend).
- Special burn permits must be secured by calling the Fire Chief directly at 705-932-9342.
- By emailing services@cavanmonaghan.net - please include the following information:
- Applicant Name
- Applicant Address
- Address of the Burn Site
- Applicant Phone Number (Home and/or Cell)
- Purpose of the permit i.e. brush fire, campfire or special burn permit
If you have applied for your permit and have not received it within two business days, please check the junk mailbox within your email account.
Lack of precipitation and/or adverse weather conditions (i.e. high winds, high smog levels, extreme heat, etc) often require restrictions surrounding open air burning in the Township. Burn restrictions are posted in the News and Notices section of the Township website and through our social media channels. To receive notices directly please subscribe to our News and Notices page and/or follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Remember: Always call the phone number on your Burn Permit BEFORE you start to burn and again once you’re finished. Restrictions will be identified on this call.
If you have an old burn permit please include that in the email (if possible) with the above information.
- You can call 705-932-2929 and someone will be happy to generate a permit for you over the phone. The permit can either be mailed to you by regular mail or by email.

Current payment options:
An invoice will be sent to you by mail with a ten digit account number.
- Online banking - if you currently use on-line and/or telephone bill payments through your Canadian Financial Institution you have access to pay bills easily from the comfort of your home as part of your banking agreement, without any third-party fees/charges. To add the Township of Cavan Monaghan as a payee by selecting the 'add a payee' option in your online/telephone banking and type "Cavan". This will result in a list of three (3) available options. Select the ‘Cavan Monaghan (TWP) GENERAL’ option. Enter the full 10 digits of your account number found on your invoice. Please ensure you have entered the number correctly
- In Person - at the Municipal Office by cash, cheque, interact. The office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Reception is unavailable between 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm daily.
- By mail - cheques, along with the stub from your invoice.
- Drop box – drop off payment, along with the stub in the Municipal Office drop box, located to the left of the main door.
