Funding will enable up to 750 homes and keep workers on the job

The Ontario Government is investing $12,911,875 in water infrastructure to help build approximately 750 new homes in the Township of Cavan Monaghan. The funding is being delivered through the province’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF), a stream of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (MHIP). “This $12.9 million investment will help create more housing opportunities for families in Cavan Monaghan by supporting the critical infrastructure needed to get homes built,” said MPP Laurie Scott. “By working closely with the Township of Cavan Monaghan, our government is helping to deliver growth-ready water systems that will enable up to 750 new homes and support the long-term development needs of the community.”

The Township of Cavan Monaghan will use the funding for the New Millbrook Standpipe and WDN Expansion. This project will help unlock more housing opportunities and support economic growth in the local community.

"We are very pleased and thank the Province for its support. Cavan Monaghan is a growing Township and it is imperative that we ensure there is infrastructure to support that growth. This funding comes at a critical time for us as it will enable an expansion that will allow for the connection of those developments to our water network", said Matthew Graham, Mayor of Cavan Monaghan. “Peterborough County thanks the Government of Ontario for its investment in critical housing-enabling infrastructure in Cavan Monaghan. This project will benefit current residents and businesses, and enable healthy growth in the township. Congratulations to Cavan Monaghan and all the best as a new chapter begins for Millbrook”, said Bonnie Clark, Warden of Peterborough County.

The MHIP is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario and includes historic investments in housing- and community-enabling infrastructure that will help municipalities deliver the core infrastructure needed, such as roads and water systems, to lay the foundation for new homes in communities across the province.

“In the face of economic uncertainty, our government is investing in the future for the people of Ontario by doubling down on our plan to build,” said Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure. “With our additional investments in the MHIP, we’re unlocking more housing and building critical infrastructure that will protect communities, keep workers on the job and lay the groundwork for a stronger economy.”

This round of funding brings the total number of homes enabled in Ontario through the MHIP to about 800,000. Investing in local infrastructure is part of the province’s more than $200 billion capital plan to build and improve transit, highways, hospitals, schools and other critical public infrastructure, while strengthening the economy for the future.
