Flood Watch Issued for April 9th
The Otonabee Region Conservation Authority has issued the enclosed Flood Watch and Water Conditions Statement for the Trent Severn Waterway.
Recent rain and warm temperatures have triggered spring freshet conditions in the Haliburton-Reservoir Lakes region, resulting in rising water levels and flows on the hydrologically connected Trent-Severn Waterway within the jurisdiction of Otonabee Conservation. Water levels and flows are expected to continue increasing during the next seven days. As a result, flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas. Increased water levels and flows are also expected to break up remaining ice.
Local water levels and flows have peaked and are receding. As a result of the forecasted precipitation and temperatures, expect a return to rising water levels and flows, but no flooding.
Municipalities, Indigenous communities, local water managers, emergency services and individual landowners along the shores of the Trent-Severn Waterway should monitor conditions and take precautions. Unsafe conditions will persist on and around all area watercourses, including unstable banks, extremely cold water and fast and turbulent flows. Water levels can be monitored at Trent-Severn Waterway, Water Survey of Canada and Otonabee Conservation websites.
This Flood Watch and Watershed Conditions Statement will expire Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 3:00p.m. unless up-dated earlier.
