Radon
Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium found in rocks and soil. You can’t see, smell, or taste radon. When outside, radon does not usually cause health issues because it can disperse in the air. But when radon seeps into confined spaces like a house, it can build up to high levels and become harmful.
Lakelands Public Health Unit is offering free radon test kits to the community. Radon, a radioactive gas from uranium, can enter homes and poses health risks. Testing is crucial as it is invisible and odorless.
To obtain a kit, contact the Municipal Office at 705-932-9347. Recipients must participate in the study, set up the device for at least 91 days, and return it for analysis using the provided pre-paid envelope.
