No Bag Tags Required for 2016 Curbside Garbage Collection

Please be advised that as of January 4, 2016 bag tags are no longer required for curbside collection. Residents can dispose a maximum of two bags per week at the curbside without bag tags. Commercial property owners who are presently served by curbside can dispose a maximum of four bags per week without tags.

Residents who choose the bag tag program and dispose of their garbage at the Transfer Station will not be permitted to utilize curbside collection. Residents wishing to use this program will need to register for their tags at the Municipal Office. Tipping fees will still apply for any excess waste at the Transfer Station.

The municipality is trying to decrease the amount of garbage disposal throughout the entire Township.

Please reduce, reuse and recycle.

Re-Use Centre

The Transfer Station has a re-use centre on site. Residents are able to drop off gently-used items that other residents may find useful. Please be advised that textiles and/or clothing are not accepted in the re-use centre.

Mattress Recycling Program

Please be advised that on September 1, 2015 the County and City of Peterborough will be introducing a new recycling program for mattresses and box springs. Studies indicate that approximately 11,000 mattresses and box springs find their way to the Peterborough City/County Waste Management Facility every year. The Township of Cavan Monaghan will be joining the mattress program and therefore, as of August 1, 2015, the Transfer Station will no longer be accepting mattresses and box springs.

Mattresses and box springs must now be taken to the Peterborough City/County Waste Management Facility located at 1260 Bensfort Road. The cost is $10.00 per unit.
